DIY your window screens!
I've never lived in a single house for longer than 8 years until this house, we have now lived here almost exactly 15 years. This is a record for me! That being said, I'm learning that there is a lot of up keep when it comes to being a homeowner especially when you live in the same house for a long period of time. Screens are definitely one of those things that need some love and attention.
This was the day when we finally broke down and replaced our old, nasty, decaying window screens. It's one of those things you have to do as a homeowner and honestly, I think we were a few years too late. But like the saying goes "better late than never", just look at this horrible screen! All of our screens just started "shredding" in various places over the last few years. I'm not sure why, maybe it was age or maybe poor material or both? Well folks, by trial and error the work must begin. Window by window we pulled out the screens and started working.
My husband and I spent a total of 11 hours replacing all of the screens, this did not include the time researching the different screen materials or shopping for them. We also had to replace 2 portions of the metal frame and purchase a screen replacement tool, all of which we purchased at a local hardware store. We spend about $140 for all 18 windows and one sliding door screen. This would have cost us about $2,000 to take them all to a local glass shop to be replaced and who knows how many days before we would be able to pick them up.
I CAN SEE!!!! What a difference some time and hard work makes! I LOVE my new window screens, they look amazing! I do have to do a shout-out to my awesome husband for all of his help! There was definitely a learning curve and also YouTube, of course. It wasn't as difficult or as costly as I'd originally thought it would be. If we can do it, you can do it! Get your DIY'ing on and replace those nasty, old window screens. You'll be so happy you did!
I like this quote "happy wife, happy life" and yes, I'm a VERY HAPPY WIFE and ready for spring!!! Let the warm weather begin! What's my next project? Hmm....a few fixes to the garden beds then tilling and planting my peas and spinach. I LOVE SPRING.
I hope this blog gave you some insight into how easy and affordable replacing your window screens really is with some research, time, YouTube and a few tools you'll have it mastered in no time.
